Nail Polish Declutter January 2017

I’m a nail polish hoarder. I keep all the ones I’m given, and I buy too many myself. After having bought some in November/December and receiving some for my birthday and christmas, I didn’t really have any space left in the drawer I keep them in, so I decided it was time to declutter and get rid of some.

I have divided them into 4 categories: Base and top coats, Empty/dry polishes, Don’t really use (anymore) and Dislikes.

Base and top coats

This category consists of base and top coats that I’ve kept as backups after buying new ones. You know, the bottles that are almost used up and impossible to use, but you convince yourself that it would be a waste to throw away that last drop? Yes, those ones.

The only exception to this is the Sally Hansen Miracle Gel Top Coat, which I just wasn’t impressed with. You can read my review of the gel polish line here.

Worth repurchasing:

  • Essie Gel Setter Top Coat (and I have)
  • Sally Hansen Salon Manicure Base Coat
  • Seche Vite (I compare Seche Vite and Essie Gel Setter Top Coat here)
  • OPI Nail Envy (Best strengthening base coat on the market, and definitely worth the splurge)

Empty/dry polishes

These are the polishes that I have loved so much that I have managed to use them up, or to at least have opened them so many times that they have gotten thick, gloopy or dry.

Would I repurchase?

  • All three Pieces: Yes. These were surprisingly good considering they were made by a clothing/accesories company. If they still had them, I’d definitely get more.
  • Essie Ballet Slippers: Maybe. Great pinkish nude, but not the best on the market.
  • Essie Muchi Muchi: Yes.
  • Essie Fiji: Maybe.
  • Maybelline Winter Baby: Yes. Great sheer white.
  • L’Oréal 604: Maybe.
  • L’Oréal 702: Maybe.
  • L’Oréal 602: Yes.
  • Depend 39: Maybe
  • Depend 91: No.

Don’t really use (anymore)

This category holds the polishes that I don’t necessarily dislike, but don’t really use (anymore) nonetheless.

dont-useSpecial Reasons:

  • Sally Hansen Pedal to the metal: I wasn’t impressed with the color or the formula, so I’ve never really used this.
  • Sally Hansen Miracle Gel Polishes: Again, wasn’t impressed with the line.
  • Hot Makeup Woman: The color didn’t suit my skin tone.
  • Depend 129+136: Nude polishes that I found better versions of.

These were the polishes that I actively disliked and just couldn’t bring myself to get rid off until now. I feel like these deserve an explanation as to why I disliked them, so I’ll do that below the picture.

  • Cien 36+37: These were cheap ones from Lidl that worked while I didn’t have other versions, but they were difficult to work with and had a terrible wear time.
  • Sally Hansen Color Frenzy Fruit Spritz: This one was so sparse and had a lot of clear base. It was hard to get any glitter pieces on the brush, so even if you applied it with a sponge, it was super sparse.
  • Rimmel Blue Eyed Girl: Stains the nails.
  • Essie Crocadilly: The magnet worked terribly, and it had very visible brush strokes when you used it as a regular polish.
  • Sally Hansen Tight Knit: I’m not a big fan of the fuzzy look, and this one seperated very badly.
  • elf Mint: thick, gloopy and difficult to work with.
  • Gina Tricot Feathers: not a fan of the fuzzy look.
  • Sabrina Cosmetics: Cheap polish that was just.. cheap. Hard to work with and not very pretty on the nail.
  • Sephora Silver Crackled: I’m not a fan of crackle polish, and this one dragged the polish underneath with it so it revealed the bare nail.
  • Sephora Fireworks: Super pretty glitter combination, but it had A LOT of clear base so it was very sparse and difficult to work with.

It was nice to get rid of some of the polishes I never use and to make room for new additions to my collection! I just wished I hadn’t filled up most of that space again already……..
