Song of the day: Ronan Hardiman – Dance Above the Rainbow

Okay you guys, I might seem super obsessed with all things Irish with my recent referral to St. Patrick’s Day, and now I’m sharing this song with you, but I’m no more obsessed than always. I have just always had a thing for riverdance. It always gives me goosebumbs when I watch it, and I would LOVE to learn it for myself!

In my Zumba class, we have a recurring routine that is inspired by riverdance (very loosely, because that stuff is HARD), and even though it always comes on towards the end of the class where most of my energy is spent, I always get a burst of new energy for this song. After class, I stayed behind to ask our instructor for the name of the song, and this was it, so this is a great starting point for when I want to dream that I was that quick on my feet. Seriously, have you seen how talented they are!?

Song of the day: Evermore – Dan Stevens

It’s been so long – nearly two years in fact! – that I have shared a song with you that I am currently obsessed with. There are a couple of reasons for that: 1) I became a little lazy and didn’t always feel like writing long(er) blog posts, and notd-posts are just quicker to write; and most importantly 2) the posts weren’t that popular, and for a long time, I feel like I’ve blogged more for the sake of other’s than my own, and only writing posts that I knew would be popular. However, I think that’s a shame, because music is just as big a part of my life as beauty is, so I’m bringing back the series.

The first song to kick off the series again comes from Continue reading

Song of the day no. 10 + blogger’s block

Today’s song is very fitting for me these days. I finished work a few days ago and now I am just super tired all the time and I really don’t feel like doing anything. The blog has suffered a little this past month because I’ve been working so much and I did not feel like spending what little spare-time I had on blogging.. Furthermore, I suffer from a little bit of blogger’s block – I haven’t been able to paint my nails much lately and now that I do have time, I don’t feel like having wet nail polish when I just want to cuddle up in my couch or bed, plus all of my nails are super short because they break at work. And then what should I write about? I’m also in on a spending-ban, so no new products to write about. Do you guys have any ideas as to what I should write about on days when I don’t feel like painting my nails? I really want to get into blogging regularly again (once I’ve slept for a few days straight and get my energy back up 😉 )

Bingeable + song of the day no. 9

Unbreakable! They’re alive. Dammit! It’s a miracle!

This line has been stuck in my head for  a week now! I can’t really put my finger on WHY, but I really, really love this intro song! It has me tapping the foot and rocking to the song for hours after turning off the TV.

The song is from the Netflix-series “Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt”. Kimmy has escaped from an apocalypse cult and has moved to New York City where she must try to navigate a world she has been absent from for 15 years.

The series is full of heartwarming naivety and humor while it tackles some problems that everyone has had or can relate to. Kimmy is a sweet person that you can relate to and that makes the show easier to watch. I will admit that the characters are at times too caricatured, but sometimes it’s nice to watch a show that doesn’t always try to be realistic and serious. If you’re on Netflix, you should definitely check out this show, I can highly recommend it and I look much forward to the next season!

Sunday night and assignments

If you’re in school like me, you know that Sundays are usually spent doing assignment or reading. I’m lucky enough to have Mondays off this semester as well, but when we have assignments due for Tuesday, which we do quite often these days, I like to do them sunday night so I don’t have to do them the last second. And to be honest, it is the best feeling ever when I see my boyfriend doing work when I’ve already done it 😉

Here are some of the songs that are getting me through the night and the two assignments.

No. 8: Somewhere only we know – Keane/Glee

This song is so amazing! I like both the original version and the glee version because of different reasons.

I like the original because of the (somewhat boring) constant crotchets (quater notes) on the piano because, for some reason, the chord changes and the fast(er) tempo of the piano compared to the singing, gets me into a state of mind where I feel like I live in a movie and that I can do anything in the world (yes, I’m one of those people who imagine I’m a movie star sometimes).

On the other hand I also really like the Glee-version

Partly because of my kind-of-crush on Blaine and his voice (if only he wasn’t gay and fictional) and partly because I am a sucker for vocal music (multiple voices) as I’m not just a singer myself, but a choir singer. I also like how the strings are such a big part of the final product.

I also like the lyrics in general. I think they’re so adorable. The can be interpreted in different ways, both positively and negatively, but to me the song is romantic.

Which version do you like better?

No. 7: Afrika Bambaataa – Planet Rock

This is usually not my favorite style of music, but this particular song has been stuck in my head since the day before yesterday. My boyfriend and I really like to play NBA 2k15 on PS4 and by now we know ALL of the songs in the soundtrack as they play constantly. This is one of them. For many hours I didn’t even notice that I was singing it until my boyfriend started singing it. I didn’t even know what song the lines I was singing was from! If you’re anything like me, then you’ll know how annoying it is not to know such a thing, so a quick YouTube-search led us to this video.

This song reminds me of those movies from the late 80s/early 90s with white chicks in silver crop tops, silver skirts and white knee-high boots dancing (think Kelly Bundy from Married With Children). I couldn’t find something to accurately describe it to you, but “The Routine” comes pretty close. (If you do not know what “The Routine” is, then you are missing out on a lot)

No. 6: This Woman’s Work by Greg Laswell

I’ve gone back to listening to Spotify even though I was against it for a while because it seemed like they only had the newest, baddest pop/techno, but since they introduced their “mood”-playlists, they have actually become my go-to music player. On one of those acoustic/relaxing playlists that I have grown so fond of, I heard this song. I don’t know if it is the song or the voice that speaks to me, but I really like this song! I have yet to hear more from Greg Laswell, but I’m definitely going to!

Over and out, Nanna

No. 5: Tenerife Sea by Ed Sheeran

During this exam I’ve gotten in to Ed Sheeran. I’ve never really listened to him much before, but obviously that was a mistake. This has been on repeat the last couple of hours.

No. 4: Band Aid – Do they know it’s christmas?

My ABSOLUTE favorite song for the holidays! I’ve heard it in many different versions including the new one which, to be honest, I was kind of disappointed by. Maybe I’m too old-fashioned, but I think they changed it too much. I think that when you do a cover of a song you should put your own twist to it, but not in most of the song like they did with the new one. I like the Glee version as well, but the original is still the best one in my opinion.

Happy Holidays, Nanna
