31DC2015: Day 22 Inspired by a song

Now we’ve definitely gone in to the hardest part of the challenge – prompts that leave more room to interpret. Once again, my imagination failed me and I had to turn to my boyfriend for help. He named all sorts of songs and then he mentioned The Beatles’ Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds, and I decided to go with that. Being a huge Beatles-fan I didn’t mind at all.

I started out by making a gradient with two blues and a dark grey, but after I slapped on all of the holo, it might have been redundant to do so..

31DC2015: Day 21 Inspired by a color

It’s become quite evident over the last three weeks that I’m a sucker for the clean/naked nail look. I’ve also had several (unsuccesful) attempts at feathered manicures.

Today’s prompt is “inspired by a color” and like many other participants, I’m interpreting that to be “inspired by a nail polish name” – in my case two: Essie – Ruffles & Feathers and Maybelline – Winter Baby.

I started out by making a jelly sandwich with Ballet Slippers and Eyelet which looks like falling snow. For those of you that don’t know, a jelly sandwich is a coat of a sheer polish, a coat of glitter and then one (or more) coats of the sheer polish again. Then I watered down some white acrylic paint and painted on the feathers.

  • Sally Hansen – Eyelet

31DC2015: Day 20 Water Marble

I love water marble-manicures, but I’m having such a hard time figuring them out.. I create a nice bulls-eye, create a great pattern on the surface, put it on the nail.. But somewhere along the lines, something always goes wrong.. I dunk my finger at a weird angle or place, I drag the bulls-eye once too many and ruin the pattern..

I like water spotting much better, but this challenge is about pushing your boundaries.

I thought I’d try a sheer water marble over glitter since that is less dependant on a great pattern. It looks alright, but I’m going to have to practice a lot more to get a satisfactory result.

Polishes used:

  • China Glaze – Material Girl
  • Essie – Ballet Slippers
  • Essie – Haute in the Heat

31DC2015: Day 19 Galaxies

Galaxies are insanely popular, and I’m no stranger to them either. I’ve done the look a couple of times, so this time I did it a little differently – brighter colors and holographic top coat for stars.

19.1 19.2

Polishes used:

  • L’Oréal – Black Swan
  • Essie – Blanc
  • L’Oréal – Banana Pop
  • Essie – Hide & Go Chic
  • Sally Hansen – Good to Grape
  • Essie – Haute in the Heat
  • China Glaze – Fairy Dust

31DC2015: day 18 Half Moons

I HATE the look of half moons! I would never wear them if not for this challenge. I don’t like the look, I don’t like how it makes your nails look short even when they’re not.. I just don’t like it, so considering I had to do it for the challenge, I tried to create as subtle a look as I could and I removed it once the last picture was snapped.

18.1 18.2

Polishes used:

  • Essie – Go Overboard
  • China Glaze – Tongue & Chic
  • H&M – Mermaid

[Day 18 – 2014]

31DC2015: Day 17 Glitter

I love glitter, but I don’t love taking it off (who does?), so I often avoid anything with glitter eventhough I love it. Makes no sense, right? Anyway, today’s prompt was all about glitter, so I got a chance to rediscover my love for it.17.1 17.2

Polishes used:

  • Pieces – Blackberry Mash
  • China Glaze – Skyscraber

[Day 17 – 2014]

31DC2015: Day 16 Geometric

For this geometric design, I think I chose the most difficult way to do things at first. I started out lining the shapes with a striping brush and then filling it in because I’ve run out of Seche Vite and couldn’t really use striping tape. About halfway through I lost my patience and started doing it with the actual polish brush instead and that worked much better and still created pretty straight lines.16.1 16.2

Polishes used:

  • Essie – Coconuts & Cocktails
  • L’Oréal – Oud Obsession
  • China Glaze – Mind the Gap

[Day 16 – 2014]

31DC2015: Day 15 Delicate Print

Today is my boyfriend’s birthday so we’re going out to eat sushi and celebrate later. I love birthdays!

Delicate print. Probably the most discussed prompt of the entire challenge, because what does it mean? Nobody really knows so everybody interprets it differently, which is also kind of cool. I know a lot of people use stamping plates for this, but unfortunately, I don’t have any of those (yet) so I had to free-hand something. I started out by making a feather-design, but it didn’t turn out quite like I wanted it to, but I’m gonna include it in this post as well so it wouldn’t be wasted. But the final design that I’m “submitting” for today’s prompt was inspired by this picture and is of a withered dandelion.

31DC2015: Day 14 Flowers

This post is my 200th post on bottledindenmark.com!

Today, I’ve created this naked-nail-with-daisies manicure. Well, almost naked. I had a little bit of staining on my nails after all of the different colors I’ve worn over the last two weeks, so I had to color-correct a little bit with one coat of Essie’s Ballet Slippers. Hardly noticeable, but makes a big difference. Also, I just love it, when my right hand turns out better, because it “poses” better than my left hand.

  • L’Oréal – Banana Pop

31DC2015: Day 13 Animal Print

Today we’re having my boyfriend’s family over to celebrate his birthday on Tuesday, so right now my apartment smells like cake and freshly baked buns. I’m a sucker for birthdays!

But all of the preparations also mean that today’s manicure was quick, easy, and removed immediately after, which suits me well – I don’t dig the whole animal print-thing.. I didn’t want to do the traditional leopard print and I did giraffe print last time around, so my boyfriend suggested all sorts of animals, but I ultimately settled on the tiger.

13.1 13.2

Polishes used:

  • Sally Hansen – Tahitian sunset
